Hi everyone, my name is Marley Assefa, and I am from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. As a second-year student at Tulane University, I went through the application process not too long ago. When I first started applying to colleges, I was stressed and overwhelmed mainly because I didn’t know where to begin, what resources to use, or which colleges were the right fit for me and my major.
After doing some research, I decided to apply to various colleges. Although I ultimately gained acceptance to 15+ universities, including various selective institutions, such as Johns Hopkins University, UCLA, UNC Chapel Hill, Tulane University, and others, I can tell you that it was a stressful season.
As a co-founder of “The College Workshop”, I would like to help students maximize their potential and success in getting into an esteemed institution by offering comprehensive resources and support to alleviate the stress associated with college applications. Additionally, I want to share how I was able to navigate the college application process and how I was able to fund my tuition with a full scholarship as a recipient of the prestigious Sub-Saharan African Scholarship award.
Please let me know if you have any questions, and I would be happy to answer them! I wish you all the best!!
Hi! My name is Vash Ho, and I am a first-generation student majoring in cell and molecular biology.
During high school, I did not fully understand how the American college application process worked. The majority of the students in my high school would not attempt to apply to an out-of-state college, attributing their concerns to affordability and keeping up with the institution's academic rigor; therefore, I was almost influenced to do the same as everyone else. Despite listening to these valid concerns, I decided to take the risk and apply to a few colleges outside of Mississippi.
After being accepted into Tulane University, I decided to post the "Common App" essay that got me into the institution on TikTok. The essay I posted ended up being viewed by over 275,000 people. From there, multiple students had reached out to me for advice about getting into college. This would start my journey and passion for helping students get into college and attain their academic goals.
My mission, as a co-founder and mentor of "The College Workshop," is to help those applying to college and teach them the advice I wish I had known when I was a senior in high school. I believe every student deserves a chance to be at their dream institution, and I would love to be a helping hand in that process.
